A Rowdy Trail Hardtail Built for Steep, Chunky, Technical Riding
The Trek Roscoe 8 is a trail hardtail mountain bike built from low-emission Alpha Platinum Aluminum and designed for riders who want a bike that actively seeks outside hits, steep chutes, and the kind of trail features that test confidence and capability. The L size in Dark Star colourway pairs the progressive trail geometry of the Roscoe platform with the longer reach and proportions that taller riders need to feel planted and in control on technical terrain rather than cramped over the bars.
The frame uses low-emission aluminium - part of Trek's manufacturing transition that began in 2024, with the switch to aluminium produced using renewable energy completed by October 2025. The frame includes a bolt-on downtube guard that stays in place even after riding through chunky, rocky terrain, keeping the frame protected and quiet rather than rattling or sustaining impact damage on rough sections. Integrated frame storage using a recycled ripstop polyester bag with an eco-friendly DWR water-resistant coating provides practical carry capacity for snacks, tools, and safety supplies without requiring a separate pack for shorter rides.

Fox Rhythm 36 Fork with 150mm Travel and Progressive Trail Geometry
The Roscoe 8 is equipped with a Fox Rhythm 36 fork delivering 150mm of suspension travel - the 36mm stanchion diameter providing the stiffness and strength suited to the aggressive trail riding this bike is designed for. 150mm of travel places the Roscoe clearly in trail-to-enduro territory, providing the suspension depth to handle big hits, steep compressions, and rough trail debris without running out of travel at the moment it is most needed.
The progressive trail geometry combines a long reach, slack head angle, steep seat angle, and short chainstays - the four geometry characteristics that define a modern aggressive trail hardtail. The long reach stretches the rider out for a low, stable position on descents. The slack head angle provides confidence-inspiring stability at speed and on steep terrain without the slow, unwieldy handling that an excessively slack angle creates. The steep seat angle moves the rider forward over the bottom bracket for efficient climbing power. The short chainstays keep the rear of the bike nimble and responsive for the kind of playful, dynamic riding the Roscoe is built around. Trek describes the result as confidence-inspiring yet still nimble and fun - a balance that reflects the hardtail's nature of demanding rider input and rewarding it with an energetic, engaging ride feel.

Integrated storage
The frame bag is made from a recycled ripstop polyester with an eco friendly DWR coating on the outside that is water resistant, with plenty of room to stash everything from snacks to safety supplies.

Shimano Deore 12-Speed and 4-Piston Shimano M6100 Brakes
The Roscoe 8 is spec'd with a 12-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain - a groupset that provides a wide gear range across 12 closely spaced speeds, covering sustained technical climbs and fast descents without requiring significant cadence adaptation between gears. Deore at the 12-speed level delivers reliable, consistent shifting that holds up to the demands of regular aggressive trail riding.
Shimano M6100 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide stop-on-a-dime braking power - the 4-piston calliper delivering significantly more braking force per lever input than a 2-piston equivalent. On a trail hardtail used on steep, chunky terrain where braking control is critical to line selection and speed management, 4-piston brakes provide the modulation and outright power needed to stop confidently in the situations the Roscoe is designed to be ridden in.
The 29-inch wheel size provides the rollover capability and momentum retention that characterise a 29er on trail terrain - better obstacle clearance, more momentum through rough sections, and faster rolling on the approach and exit of technical features.

A better way to produce aluminum
Starting in 2024, we began removing high-emission aluminum from our manufacturing and replacing it with low-emission aluminum made with renewable energy. By October 2025, nearly every alloy bike we make - this one included - had made the switch, driving a major drop in our footprint.
