The Starting Point for Your Dream Alloy Gravel Build
The Trek Checkpoint ALR Frameset is a custom build platform for riders who want to specify every component of their gravel bike rather than accepting a pre-configured complete bike build. The 300 Series Alpha Aluminum frame sits at the top of Trek's aluminium construction range - a higher-grade specification than the standard Alpha Aluminum used in lower-tier Checkpoint builds, delivering a frame that is lighter, more refined, and closer to the carbon Checkpoint SL in character while remaining significantly more accessible in cost.
This is the L size in the Bronze Age colourway - a warm, distinctive finish that stands apart from the standard colourways available on complete Checkpoint builds. The frameset includes the frame and the full carbon fork but no other components. Drivetrain, wheels, cockpit, and all other components must be sourced separately as part of the custom build.
The Checkpoint ALR Frameset suits two distinct build directions. As a bikepacking rig, the comprehensive mount system and 50mm tyre clearance provide the carrying capacity and terrain capability for multi-day loaded riding. As a race-oriented alloy gravel build, the Gravel Endurance geometry and carbon fork provide the performance foundation for a competitive but accessible gravel race setup.
Mounts galore
The new Checkpoint ALR is equipped to carry everything you need with mounts on the frame and fork for front and rear racks, fenders, and Adventure Top Tube, Frame, and Triangle Bags. Plus, the new frame was optimized to fit extra hydration in addition to all your bags.

300 Series Alpha Aluminum, Carbon Fork, and Gravel Endurance Geometry
The 300 Series Alpha Aluminum construction is the frame material that separates the ALR Frameset from the complete Checkpoint ALR 4 - a higher-grade alloy that delivers a lighter and more refined ride character than standard Alpha Aluminum. The full carbon fork provides front-end compliance that absorbs gravel surface vibration before it reaches the rider's hands, reducing fatigue on long gravel routes while contributing to the overall weight reduction of the build.
Gravel Endurance geometry uses a higher stack and shorter reach than a road bike geometry, positioning the rider in a more upright and comfortable posture for sustained long-distance riding without sacrificing control on technical gravel terrain. This geometry suits both bikepacking loads and competitive gravel racing where rider comfort over distance is a meaningful performance factor alongside raw bike speed.
The frame is built from low-emission aluminium - part of Trek's manufacturing transition completed by October 2025, replacing high-emission standard aluminium with aluminium produced using renewable energy.

50mm Tyre Clearance, Full Mounts, and Suspension Fork Compatible
The Checkpoint ALR Frameset is designed for 50mm tyre clearance (as measured), or 29x2.0 inches, giving significant flexibility in tyre choice from narrower faster-rolling options to wider high-volume choices for rough terrain and bikepacking use. Suspension fork compatibility is available on all sizes except XS, and the frame accepts a dropper post for riders who want additional technical descending capability from their gravel build.
Frame and fork mounts cover the full bikepacking and commuting accessory range - front and rear racks, fenders, and compatible Adventure Top Tube, Frame, and Triangle Bags. The frame is also optimised to fit additional hydration alongside a full bag setup, providing carrying capacity for both liquid and gear on longer rides where both matter.

A better way to produce aluminum
Starting in 2024, we began removing high-emission aluminum from our manufacturing and replacing it with low-emission aluminum made with renewable energy. By October 2025, nearly every alloy bike we make - this one included - had made the switch, driving a major drop in our footprint.

FAQs
What is included with the Checkpoint ALR Frameset?
The frameset includes the 300 Series Alpha Aluminum frame and the full carbon fork. All other components - drivetrain, wheels, cockpit, seatpost, and brakes - must be sourced separately as part of the custom build.
How does the 300 Series Alpha Aluminum differ from standard Alpha Aluminum?
300 Series Alpha Aluminum is Trek's higher-grade aluminium construction, delivering a lighter and more refined frame character than the standard Alpha Aluminum used in lower-tier Checkpoint builds. It sits at the top of Trek's aluminium range, providing a performance level closer to the carbon Checkpoint SL while remaining significantly more accessible in cost.
What build directions does the Checkpoint ALR Frameset support?
The frameset suits two primary build directions - a bikepacking rig using the comprehensive mount system and 50mm tyre clearance for loaded multi-day riding, or a race-oriented alloy gravel build using the Gravel Endurance geometry and carbon fork as the performance foundation for competitive gravel racing.
Is the Checkpoint ALR Frameset compatible with a suspension fork?
Yes, on all sizes except XS. The frame is also dropper post compatible for riders who want additional technical descending capability from their gravel build.
What tyre clearance does the Checkpoint ALR Frameset offer?
The frame is designed for 50mm tyre clearance (as measured), equivalent to 29x2.0 inches in mountain bike sizing, providing significant flexibility between faster-rolling narrower tyres and high-volume options for rough terrain and bikepacking use.
