2012 Trek Madone 4.7

Swoopy descents, serpentine roads and epic climbs; Trek's Madone 4.7 was made for these and more! Constructed of Trek's trick OCLV Carbon, this beauty is light and stiff for top-notch power transfer and efficiency, while remaining impressively compliant for ride-all-day comfort. Complementing the sweet ride is a Bontrager Race Lite oversize carbon fork for maximum steering precision and control. And, this amazing bike is built for action with Bontrager's Race wheels, which are seemingly effortless to get up to speed, a compact Shimano Ultegra 10-speed gruppo for quick shifting, and a host of Bontrager's quality Race components, too.

      Comments:

Never owned a road bike before - and was a little nervous to start - however - bike is great, flies along - hoods take some getting used to, as does going back to brake blocks!! - Acheived a 'gold' time on the first sportive i entered so bike is defintately fast. Possibly not the best bike for rough rides / bad weather but trade off is worth it for the long rides on nicer days. Bike is pretty comfortable given its billing as a race bike and no problems for longer trips. I recommend this bike without hesitation.

I picked up the Mondone 4.7, 2013 model last week. took it out for a quick 15 mile ride to check seat position etc and was a little underwhelmed. Last Saturday, participated in a Century ride and the bike really showed its true colors. Made a seat adjustment and that's all it took. 100 miles and the bike performed beautifully. Last bike was Cannondale aluminum frame with 105 equipment. served me well. The Mondone is in a different category entirely. cruising we effortless on flat ground. accelerating was quick. shifting needs some adjustment, but I am sure that's just working out the kinks. Love this bike. have a metric century in a couple of weeks and now that the bike and I have been formally introduced, really looking forward to it. for the price point, its a great combination of features and equipment

        Comments:

I've had the bike for just over a month now and live it. It's smooth and solid and works well. The seat post assembly and seat are not great though. The saddle is grippy and grabs ALL of my sorts making me stick to it which is really uncomfortable. Also, the seat clamp seems to be junk on mine as well. The seat post has not held its position since I took delivery of the bike. VERY frustrating. I can't seem to find a problem with anything obvious but it makes me nervous because the frame is carbon and if something is not right in the seat post area of the frame I don't know that the frame could be fixed. Check your seat posts before delivery. Mine has been slipping 1/4 inch every few miles. Help me Trek!!

        Comments:

I went down a frame size with this one and found the lower handlebar hight and shorter stem made the bike a bit twitchy downhill at speed and under brakes compared with my old Trek 1.5. A longer stem and a refit at the shop fixed this immediately. This showed me how important the shop can be you buy your bike from in getting the most out of your ride. Basically, I couldn't be happier with this bike!

group ride two to three times per week. other than other trek riders, I am the fastest among the group. of course my physicality has lots to do with it, however i rode a steel bike prior to purchasing the trek and the difference the bike made was most obvious. I LOVE MY BIKE!

          Comments:

I am in my mid twenty's and was looking for a great first road bike that I could grow with over time. I was looking for something that was all carbon with a comfortable frame and once I test road this bike I know it was the perfect fit. With a smaller budget i was looking to get the most for my money and i found this to be the best deal with full shimano ultegra components and full carbon. The bike also looks better than most bike i have come across. I have so far had this bike for 6 months and put roughly 500 miles on and have no complaints thus far. It is extremely fast, very comfortable, and I keep up with cyclers who have been cycling for their whole lives. I would definitely recommend this bike for anyone who is looking to get the most for their money and someone who likes to push their limits and wants a bike to support them.

What a difference a full carbon frame is. I was riding an old aluminum Fuji with a carbon fork before buying this Madone. Man what a difference! It rides smooth and it shifted great, not to mention the price was just right for my budget and didn't break the bank. A great buy and overall a great bike!
